President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, made a brief transit stopover in Dhaka on Sunday (October 18, 2026) while traveling from Morocco to Bhutan.
Infantino’s flight landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka around 12:00 PM. Due to the lack of direct commercial flight connections between Morocco and Bhutan’s capital, Thimphu, the FIFA chief utilized Dhaka as an official international transit hub for his short layover.
During his brief stay at the airport, Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) President Tabith Awal alongside BFF vice presidents held a courtesy meeting with Infantino at the VIP Lounge. BFF officials had made elaborate reception arrangements in advance to welcome the global football chief. This courtesy exchange follows a previous formal meeting between Tabith Awal and Infantino held during the FIFA ASEAN Cup in Indonesia.
