State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir stated that protecting and promoting national interests through mutual respect, shared benefits, and strategic autonomy forms the cornerstone of Bangladesh’s foreign policy framework.
Delivering the valedictory address on the closing day of the three-day international conference Bay of Bengal Conversation 2026, organized by the Centre for Governance Studies (CGS) at a Dhaka hotel on Monday (October 5, 2026), the State Minister detailed the evolving dynamics of modern diplomacy. He emphasized that foreign policy, national security, and economic priorities are inextricably linked, urging a shift toward economic-centric diplomacy to secure trade expansion and strategic growth amid shifting global power balances. Highlighting four guiding principles—national interest as the guide, strategic autonomy as strength, partnership as opportunity, and peace as the ultimate goal—Kabir underscored the importance of keeping the Bay of Bengal a zone of peace, stability, and regional cooperation across South Asia. Addressing key national security challenges, he reiterated that safe, voluntary, dignified, and sustainable repatriation of displaced Rohingya populations remains a top foreign policy priority requiring robust multilateral engagement.
