Jamaat-e-Islami Strongly Condemns Attack on Journalists at Rajshahi University
Rajshahi University campus, where the assault on four media professionals on Sunday night has sparked calls for immediate law enforcement action.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has issued a statement strongly condemning the violent attack on working journalists at Rajshahi University (RU) and demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible.

In an official statement released on Monday (October 5, 2026), Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General and Central Publicity Secretary Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer expressed deep concern over the incident that occurred late Sunday night (October 4, 2026) on the campus. The assault resulted in injuries to four journalists representing major media outlets: Jahidul Islam (Agamir Somoy), Nur Ahsan Mridul (The Daily Star), Arif Uzzaman Korban (bdnews24.com), and Mainul Islam Raju (Samakal). Zubayer characterized the attack as an intolerable assault on freedom of the press, noting with grave concern that the incident unfolded despite the presence of law enforcement personnel and the university proctorial body. He urged the university administration and police to utilize available video footage to swiftly identify, apprehend, and prosecute the perpetrators, warning that failure to act could compromise student safety and destabilize the academic environment on campus.
