Damaged vehicles and police activity at Mirpur-10 in Dhaka following violence during a DNCC hawker eviction drive.

Law enforcement agencies have registered four separate cases against approximately 1,000 unidentified individuals following violent clashes, vandalism, and arson during a street hawker eviction drive at Mirpur-10 in Dhaka, police authorities confirmed on Thursday (October 1, 2026).

According to Mirpur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hafizur Rahman, three cases were filed at Mirpur station—one by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) over vehicle arson, one by local police over assault on duty officers, and another by traffic police. Separately, Kafrul Police Station OC Mohammad Saiful Islam confirmed a fourth case filed by DNCC naming 400 to 500 unnamed accused. The unrest erupted on Wednesday morning (September 30) when an eviction drive led by DNCC Executive Magistrate Marufa Begum Nelly near the Baitul Quddus Jame Mosque Market triggered an accidental electrical wire snap and fire from heavy machinery. Enraged hawkers attacked city workers and responding police, leaving several officers injured, destroying three DNCC vehicles, and damaging a police transport before police deployed tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. DNCC Administrator Mohammad Shafiqul Islam Khan inspected the site, condemning the violence as a premeditated attack and vowing strict legal measures.
