The Bangladesh Government has introduced major updates to the regulations governing front number plates for motorcycles. Under the new gazette notification published on Sunday, November 1, 2026, the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) is now authorized to permit motorcycle front registration numbers to be written in a single horizontal line. Additionally, BRTA can allow retro-reflective plates in multiple dimensions to match specific motorcycle body designs.

The official notification was issued on October 28, 2026, by the BRTA Establishment Branch under the Road Transport and Highways Division, signed by Deputy Secretary Al-Amin Md. Nurul Islam by order of the President. Exercising powers granted under Section 122 of the Road Transport Act, 2018, the government formally amended Rule 36 of the Road Transport Rules, 2022.

The revised regulations empower BRTA to standardize specific formatting rules for single-line plates, including font heights for district names and vehicle categories, top margin dimensions, spacing between digits, and exact hyphen lengths between second-line numbers or line segments. Furthermore, the words "Motorcycle and" have been omitted from Sub-rule (10) of Rule 36. The amended rules come into force immediately across the country.
