The government is set to launch a nationwide "One Teacher, One Tab" program alongside expanding opportunities for foreign higher education, research grants, and international teacher exchange programs to modernize the teaching profession in Bangladesh.
Speaking as a special guest at a World Teachers' Day 2026 event held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on Monday (October 5, 2026), Education Advisor to the Prime Minister and Chief Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, Mahdi Amin, detailed government plans to elevate teachers' professional standing and skills. He highlighted that discussions are ongoing with foreign embassies to facilitate bilateral teacher exchange programs and foster industry-academia collaboration. Amin also revealed that under the direction of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, over 100 distinguished teachers were honored at this year's event—a significant increase from the previous practice of honoring 12 teachers annually. Addressing long-standing financial grievances, he noted that the government has disbursed BDT 2,000 crore to settle pending retirement benefits accumulated over the past 16 years. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended as the chief guest, while Minister for Education and Primary & Mass Education Dr. A. N. M. Ehsanul Hoque Milan presided over the ceremony.
