The Bangladesh government is enacting a strategic trade framework focused on processing raw golden fiber into high-value diversified products to maximize national revenue and foreign exchange earnings, announced Minister of Textiles and Jute Khandaker Abdul Muktadir.
Speaking as the chief guest at the joint inauguration of the new permanent retail outlet "JDPC Express" and a six-day "Diversified Jute Goods Fair" in Tejgaon, Dhaka, on Saturday (October 3, 2026), Minister Muktadir outlined the financial metrics driving the policy transition. While exporting raw jute yields approximately $1,200 per ton during peak market periods, converting that same raw material into jute-based packaging increases export values to $2,400–$2,500 per ton. Furthermore, processing blended fibers with cotton elevates export value up to $4,000–$5,000 per ton. State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md. Shariful Alam noted that the government aims to expand permanent display hubs to international airports and overseas diplomatic missions to promote GI products, Rajshahi silk, and handloom textiles globally. The 6-day fair at the JDPC premises will run through October 8, while JDPC Express will operate seven days a week to showcase cottage-industry and artisan-crafted items.
