Bangladesh's healthcare network and major state institutions remain severely disrupted, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated on Sunday while urging comprehensive national action against systemic corruption and administrative failure.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of Jamaat-e-Islami's "Nationwide Dengue Awareness Week (October 4–10)" at the Madhubag sports ground in Dhaka on Sunday (October 4, 2026), Dr. Shafiqur Rahman expressed deep concern over the breakdown of public service institutions, banking systems, stock markets, and urban law and order. Highlighting the recent controversy at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport regarding baggage mismanagement and harassment of returning expatriate workers, he condemned the arrest and helmeted court production of two-time former MP Freedom Fighter Major (Retd.) Akhtaruzzaman. Dr. Shafiqur Rahman criticized airport security and law enforcement for pressing fabricated charges against Akhtaruzzaman while failing to provide CCTV footage of the alleged assault. On the healthcare front, the Jamaat chief raised alarms over rising dengue fatalities, urging the government to facilitate the import and distribution of dengue vaccines through private or public channels. He noted that Jamaat leaders and prospective Dhaka North mayoral candidates have initiated canal-cleaning and mosquito-eradication drives to curb the outbreak.
