Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed stated that modern, integrated, and technology-driven border management plays an indispensable role in safeguarding national security while accelerating Bangladesh's economic growth. He made these remarks as chief guest at a high-level briefing event titled 'IOM Strategic Framework on Immigration and Border Governance in Bangladesh (2027–2031)', organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) at Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon in Dhaka on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.

Addressing diplomats and senior law enforcement officials, the Home Minister highlighted that Bangladesh is more globally connected than ever before. To facilitate legitimate travel and international trade while combating cross-border risks, the government is continuously modernizing immigration infrastructure across airports, land ports, and checkpoints. He underlined the government's National Integrated Border Management Strategy 2026–2031 and the Five-Year Strategic Reform and Development Framework (July 2026–June 2031), identifying digital transformation, paperless administration, responsible artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, and inter-agency interoperability as top priorities.

Stressing the pivotal role of the Bangladesh Police Special Branch, Minister Salahuddin advocated for balancing technological adoption with human rights sensitivity. He further noted that border governance requires multi-agency collaboration to curb transnational crime, identity fraud, and human trafficking. IOM Chief of Mission Dr. Laura Tom Bonde commended Bangladesh's progress and reaffirmed technical partnership support. Key participants included Canadian High Commissioner Ajit Singh, Italian Ambassador Antonio Alessandro, Additional Secretary Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed, and Special Branch Additional IGP Md. Kamrul Ahsan.
