Over 10,000 DMP Police Personnel Deployed in Mirpur to Control RMG Worker Unrest and Maintain Law & Order
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) units deployed along key thoroughfares in Mirpur to prevent highway blockades and protect manufacturing plants.

In response to widespread garment worker demonstrations and potential sabotage, more than 10,000 police personnel have been deployed across the Mirpur industrial zone in Dhaka, according to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Joint Police Commissioner Md. Mohidul Islam.

Speaking to media representatives on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Joint Commissioner Mohidul Islam stated that extensive security arrangements have been implemented at critical points, including Mirpur-1, Pallabi, Rupnagar, Mirpur-12, and Kafrul Road. Owing to the massive police presence, protesters were unable to block roads on Wednesday morning. Consequently, overall conditions across Mirpur have normalized, with workers returning to their respective apparel units and manufacturing operations resuming.

The DMP official emphasized that law enforcement agencies—including the Special Response Battalion (SRB), Armed Police Battalion (APBn), Detective Branch (DB), and Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC)—are operating under a unified joint command structure. Strict legal action is being pursued against instigators attempting to destabilize the export sector, burn property, or damage vehicles. However, to ensure innocent workers and bystanders are not harassed, senior officers are directly overseeing detainee verification processes, releasing anyone wrongfully picked up during field drives.
