
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmad urged Algeria to expand its import of readymade garments (RMG) and pharmaceutical products from Bangladesh to accelerate bilateral economic ties during a courtesy meeting with Algerian Ambassador Dr. Abdelwahab Saidani at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka on Monday (October 5, 2026).
During the meeting, both parties engaged in comprehensive discussions covering mutual security cooperation, human trafficking prevention, migration management, and trade expansion. Special emphasis was placed on conducting joint workshops and providing specialized training to enhance the professional capacities of security forces. The meeting also highlighted ongoing government-to-government (G2G) initiatives for long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) and fertilizer imports from Algeria to Bangladesh. Ambassador Saidani recalled that Algeria was the first Arab nation to recognize Bangladesh following its 1971 independence and reaffirmed Algiers' commitment to deepening historical ties. Home Minister Salahuddin also encouraged Algeria to recruit Bangladeshi healthcare professionals, including doctors and nurses, and noted that Algeria's President has accepted an official invitation from Bangladesh's Prime Minister to visit Dhaka, with diplomatic dates to be finalized soon. Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Monjur Morshed Chowdhury and Director General of the Africa Wing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ATM Abdur Rouf Mondal were also present.
