Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has warned that police personnel involved in criminal acts, indiscipline, or breach of duty will face strict prosecution under criminal law alongside departmental disciplinary proceedings.
Speaking as the chief guest at the Police Medals Awarding Ceremony during Police Week 2026 on Saturday (September 26, 2026), the Home Minister stressed that a firm "punishment and reward" policy remains in effect. While outstanding performance will be duly recognized, criminal offenses will be tried under conventional penal statutes. Acknowledging past instances where the police force was politically exploited and forced to execute illegal directives, Ahmed asserted that officers now have an opportunity for reform and professional service to the public. He urged senior officers to maintain democratic standards and refrain from shielding subordinate misconduct. Furthermore, the Minister announced the establishment of a specialized Cyber Security Unit launching next week, complete with metropolitan, district, and divisional branches equipped with modern forensic laboratories to combat tech-driven crime.
