State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir sought stronger economic and defence cooperation with the Republic of Korea during separate ministerial meetings in Seoul with Korean First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Yoon-joo and Vice Minister of National Defense Lee Doo-hee.
During the bilateral talks, Kobir handed over an invitation letter from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to South Korean President Lee Jae Myung to visit Bangladesh.
He called for an early signing of the Bangladesh–ROK Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and urged increased Korean investment in semiconductors, electronics, shipbuilding, ICT, and high-end readymade garments. Kobir also requested expanded employment opportunities for Bangladeshi workers under the Employment Permit System and continued support for Rohingya repatriation. In his meeting with Vice Minister Lee Doo-hee, discussions focused on bolstering defence collaboration through training, capacity building, and potential Korean investment in Bangladesh’s upcoming defence industrial zone.
