The fresh consignment of uranium fuel for the first unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant has arrived in Bangladesh, landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka via a special Russian cargo flight late Friday night (October 2). Officials from the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority formally received the shipment, which is being transported to the project site in Ishwardi, Pabna, by road under strict military and law enforcement security.
Science and Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam confirmed that comprehensive security preparations were completed prior to the arrival. An additional 48 assemblies for Unit 1 and 163 assemblies for Unit 2 are scheduled to arrive across nine flights through December. Meanwhile, officials from the Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited reported the successful completion of a 16 MPa high-pressure test on the pressure-operated relief valves. Following upcoming 18 MPa tests, fission reactions and power startup procedures will proceed, paving the way to supply around 300 MW (30% of total capacity) to the national grid by November–December.
