
To curb the ongoing outbreak of measles and rubella across the country, Islamic Foundation Director General Mufti Muhammad Muhibbullahil Baqi Nadvi has urged widespread mobilization of imams, khatibs, and Islamic scholars to build public awareness and boost vaccination coverage.
Speaking as the chief guest at an advocacy and planning meeting with religious leaders held at the Islamic Foundation auditorium in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Sunday (October 4, 2026), Mufti Muhibbullahil Baqi Nadvi emphasized that timely immunization is critical for ensuring children's health and future safety. He pledged the full institutional backing of the Islamic Foundation for national immunization drives. During the session, Dr. Rajib Sarkar, Medical Officer at the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), delivered a technical presentation outlining current epidemiological trends and vaccination targets. Key speakers noted that mosque-centered announcements and sermons before Friday prayers play a pivotal role in dismantling vaccine hesitancy and misconceptions among guardians. The meeting featured contributions from Islamic Foundation Imam Training Academy Director Sarkar Sarwar Alam, UNICEF Senior National Consultant Dr. Md. Shamsuzzaman, and Joint Secretary S.M. Tariqul Islam.
