
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman handed over special honors and awards to 102 distinguished educators from primary, secondary, tertiary, technical, and specialized education sectors at a national ceremony held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on Monday (October 5, 2026) to mark World Teachers' Day.
Organized by the Ministry of Education, each honored teacher received BDT 2 lakh, a commemorative crest, and a certificate of recognition. Minister for Education and Primary & Mass Education Dr. A. N. M. Ehsanul Hoque Milan presided over the ceremony, which commenced at 2:00 PM following the national anthem. PM's Education Advisor Mahdi Amin, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Education Md. Selim Bhuiyan, and Minister of State for Primary & Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj attended as special guests. Honorees were selected through a transparent screening process conducted by search committees under the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, Directorate of Primary Education, Directorate of Technical and Madrasah Education, and the University Grants Commission (UGC). Prominent awardees included late Professor Dr. Emajuddin Ahamed (posthumous) and Emeritus Professor Dr. Anwarullah Chowdhury of Dhaka University, Emeritus Professor Dr. Arun Kumar Basak of Rajshahi University, and late Professor Dr. Jamal Nazrul Islam (posthumous) of Chittagong University. In special categories, awards were presented to Md. Lutfar Rahman, known as the "One-Taka Teacher" for offering free education since 1974, and Ramani Kanta Bepari of "Ramani Kanta Pathshala."
