Japanese multinational conglomerate Marubeni Corporation has expressed strong intent to expand its investment portfolio in Bangladesh across high-tech manufacturing, automobile assembly, fertilizer production, green ship recycling, and IT offshoring.

The development unfolded during a bilateral meeting on Sunday (October 11, 2026) at the Secretariat between Minister for Commerce, Industry, Textiles and Jute Khondokar Abdul Muktadir and a Marubeni delegation led by President and CEO Masayuki Omoto. Secretary to the Ministry of Industries Abdun Naser Khan was also present. During the meeting, detailed proposals were presented regarding local assembly/manufacturing of Toyota brand vehicles, modernization of KAFCO to boost fertilizer production capacity (including DAP and TSP), adoption of green technology in ship recycling, and long-term energy options utilizing Small Modular Reactor (SMR) nuclear technology. Minister Muktadir assured the Japanese delegation of seamless institutional reforms, simplified trade licensing, and guaranteed repatriation of profits and capital to foster an investor-friendly ecosystem, while highlighting potential joint ventures in high-value diversified jute products and artificial intelligence. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to expediting the Bangladesh-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) to solidify long-term economic trade.
