Jobseekers Block Shahbagh Following Youth Development Recruitment Exam Cancellation Over Question Leak
Job candidates protesting at Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka on Saturday after the Youth Development Department recruitment exam was postponed over question leak allegations.

Protesting job candidates staged road blockades in Shahbagh and outside Government Bangla College in Mirpur on Saturday (October 10, 2026), following the last-minute cancellation of the Assistant Upazila Youth Development Officer recruitment examination due to widespread question paper leak allegations.

The exam, aimed at filling 242 11th-grade positions, was scheduled to take place at 11:00 AM across approximately 100 centers in Dhaka, with nearly 300,000 candidates registered to appear. Hours before the scheduled start, leaks surfaced across social media platforms, prompting authorities to suspend the test. Outraged applicants, many having traveled from distant districts such as Jhenaidah and Nilphamari, gathered in key intersections including Shahbagh, blocking traffic and clashing verbally with law enforcement officers who repeatedly attempted to clear the thoroughfares. Protesters issued a four-point charter of demands, including the immediate arrest and prosecution of perpetrators, the announcement of a new exam schedule within 2 to 3 days, strict anti-cheating technology deployment at test centers, and accountability for systemic mismanagement. Mazharul Haq, Assistant Director (Admin-5) of the Department of Youth Development, confirmed that a new test date will be announced within two to three days.
