The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has announced that the southwest monsoon is likely to completely withdraw from Bangladesh within the next 72 hours, while predicting the potential formation of a low-pressure area over the central Bay of Bengal within five days.
According to a weather bulletin issued on Tuesday (October 6, 2026) by BMD meteorologist Dr. Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallik, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are expected across isolated parts of all eight administrative divisions over the next 24 hours ending Wednesday morning, with daytime temperatures dropping slightly across the country. Precipitation is forecast to increase progressively mid-week: by Thursday (October 8), many places across Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Khulna divisions, along with fair portions of Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet, are expected to experience light to moderate rain and thundershowers, with moderately heavy falls likely in localized areas. Similar weather conditions with heavy localized spells will persist through Friday (October 9). By Saturday (October 10), rainfall activity will taper off to isolated spots nationwide, leading to a slight increase in daytime temperatures, coincided with the expected onset of the low-pressure system in the central Bay of Bengal.
