LGRD Minister Urges Children to Become Worthy Citizens Following Ideals of Ziaur Rahman
LGRD Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan addressing attendees at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy auditorium in Dhaka during the seminar celebrating 'Child Rights Day 2026' and the academy's 50th golden jubilee on Wednesday.

Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan called upon the youth to develop as patriotic, conscientious citizens by following the ideals of martyr President Ziaur Rahman during a national seminar marking 'Child Rights Day 2026' and the 50th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Shishu Academy.

Speaking as the chief guest at the auditorium of Bangladesh Shishu Academy in Dhaka on Wednesday (October 7, 2026), Minister Moyeen Khan highlighted that long before international bodies formalized frameworks for child rights, President Ziaur Rahman prioritized nurturing children's latent talents to prepare them for future leadership. The seminar, titled "50 Years in Children's Dreams: Achievements, Experiences, and the Future Bangladesh," was chaired by Minister for Women and Children Affairs as well as Social Welfare, Prof. Dr. A Z M Zahid Hossain. In his presidential address, Dr. Zahid Hossain noted that President Ziaur Rahman initiated organized child development programs back in 1976—years ahead of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989. He announced that the government is expanding Shishu Academy branches to every upazila across the nation to ensure privileged and underprivileged children alike receive equal development opportunities. Selima Rahman, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, attended as special guest, while Principal Information Officer Syed Abdal Ahmad presented the keynote paper.
