Monsoon to Withdraw by Mid-October as BWOT Forecasts Year-End Rain and Low-Pressure System
Dark storm clouds hover over Bangladesh as the monsoon season prepares to withdraw by mid-October.

The South-West Monsoon is projected to fully withdraw from Bangladesh by October 14, 2026, making way for variable weather conditions characterized by initial humid spells, morning river fog, and potential low-pressure formations in the Bay of Bengal later in the month, according to a long-term monthly outlook released by the Bangladesh Weather Observation Team (BWOT) on Thursday (October 1, 2026).

BWOT’s forecast outlines a three-phase atmospheric trend across October. The first ten days (October 1–10) will see partly cloudy skies, high humidity, and short-duration localized rainfall primarily in Chittagong, Barisal, Dhaka, Sylhet, and Mymensingh divisions, with mild heatwave conditions affecting parts of Rajshahi and Sylhet. Following the monsoon's complete departure by October 14, the mid-month period (October 11–20) will yield generally clear conditions and 6 to 9 hours of daily sunshine, alongside morning fog in central and northern river basins. However, BWOT cautioned that a weak low-pressure system may form in the Bay of Bengal between October 15 and 20, potentially causing rough seas. A secondary rain belt active between October 21 and 25 could bring increased cloud cover, heavier precipitation to southern and central regions, and minor landslide risks in hilly areas before clearing by late October.
