Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has reaffirmed that his government's primary responsibility is to ensure maximum safety and fundamental rights for every individual as equal citizens of Bangladesh, rather than through the lens of religious identity.
Addressing Hindu community leaders and representatives from eight prominent temples within his Dhaka-17 constituency at the Cabinet Division in the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday (October 12, 2026), the Prime Minister welcomed their formal invitation for the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja. Reiteration of past sacrifices made across religious divides during the 1971 Liberation War, the 1990 pro-democracy uprising, and the 2024 mass movement, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman emphasized that national crises never discriminated based on faith. Referring to state initiatives—including extended Durga Puja holidays and increased financial allocations—the Prime Minister stressed that fulfilling civic entitlements is a fundamental duty of the head of government.
Hindu community representatives, including BNP Executive Committee member Ramesh Dutta, Gulshan-Banani Sarbajanin Puja Foundation President Alok Saha, and Baridhara DOHS Puja Committee President Jiban Kanai Das, expressed satisfaction over the post-election peaceful environment, pledging continued support for the administration.
