Declaring that Bangladesh boasts a level of communal harmony unseen anywhere else in the world, President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has lauded the peaceful nationwide celebration of Durga Puja amidst global conflicts and violence.
Visiting the Ramna Kali Temple puja mandap on Sunday (October 18, 2026), the President strongly criticized deliberate misinterpretations and false propaganda propagated against Bangladesh's pluralistic society. Emphasizing the core philosophy of Durga Puja—the triumph of good over evil—he noted that the nation has historically united to defeat malevolent forces, recalling past struggles led by former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
President Fakhrul revealed that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman issued explicit directives to both state law enforcement agencies and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) cadres to take proactive initiatives in guaranteeing foolproof security across all puja mandaps. Expressing personal regret that state protocols restricted everyday devotees from mingling freely during his visit, the President voiced hope for future celebrations where rigorous, heavy security cordons will no longer be necessary.
