
The Parliamentary Caucus on Climate Change and Displacement has called for aggressive policy interventions and institutional reforms to mitigate climate impacts and safeguard vulnerable communities facing displacement across Bangladesh.
During the caucus's inaugural meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Dhaka on Sunday (October 4, 2026), Caucus Chairman Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury, MP, alongside participating lawmakers, underscored the urgency of establishing a multi-agency framework to address climate-induced migration. To streamline disaster response and sustainable rehabilitation, the caucus formally recommended forming a high-level inter-ministerial coordination committee comprising representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change; Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives; Internal Resources Division; Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ministry of Water Resources; and Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief. Lawmakers including Md. Amirul Islam Khan, MP, Md. Rashedul Islam Rashed, MP, Md. Anwarul Haq, MP, Rumeen Farhana, MP, and Marzia Begum, MP participated in the session, resolving to ensure active representation of Bangladeshi parliamentarians at upcoming national workshops and global climate negotiations.
