The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Social Welfare resolved on Tuesday (September 29, 2026) to work in unison to improve living standards for marginal communities and modernize social safety nets across Bangladesh.

A comprehensive PowerPoint presentation outlined ministry activities, following which Minister Zahid Hossain emphasized non-partisan, universal welfare delivery across all demographics. Committee members recommended integrating local Members of Parliament directly into upazila-level welfare initiatives to strengthen field-level oversight. Ministry officials briefed the committee on the flagship 'Family Card Programme', which launched as a pilot on March 10, 2026, and has reached 56 wards across 54 upazilas in 52 districts, with plans finalized for nation-wide expansion.
