Parliamentary Standing Committee Proposes Mandatory 3-Year Contractor Warranty for Rural Roads and Probes Into Past Project Irregularities
LGRD Ministry Parliamentary Standing Committee Chairman AKM Selim Reza Habib presiding over the committee's maiden meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Sunday.

In a bid to ensure sustainable infrastructure development and administrative accountability, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives (LGRD) has proposed holding a three-year mandatory warranty security deposit from contractors constructing rural roads across the country.

Chaired by AKM Selim Reza Habib, the parliamentary committee held its maiden meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Sunday (October 11, 2026). Committee members, including LGRD Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, State Minister Mir Shahe Alam, and other senior lawmakers, strongly recommended thorough investigations into financial irregularities and corruption associated with unnecessary projects undertaken during the previous regime using domestic and foreign funding.

In line with prime ministerial directives, the committee emphasized strict quality oversight for rural road construction, urgent arsenic-mitigation initiatives in affected zones, UNO-led cleanliness drives for dengue vector control, and the rollout of digital online attendance systems at the Upazila level to bolster administrative efficiency.
