
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated on Sunday (October 11, 2026) that Bangladesh possesses world-class medical potential, emphasizing that further enhancing healthcare service quality will significantly discourage citizens from seeking treatment abroad.
The President made these remarks while receiving a seven-member delegation from Hepatology Society Dhaka Bangladesh, led by Prof. Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam, President of Hepatology Society and Chairman of the Department of Hepatology at Bangladesh Medical University, at Bangabhaban. During the meeting, President Mirza Fakhrul advised medical professionals to rise above political affiliations and focus strictly on their professional duties to ensure superior healthcare delivery.
Prof. Dr. Shahinul Alam briefed the President on advancements in local liver transplant procedures, while raising concern over the sharp rise in fatty liver diseases and Hepatitis-B cases caused by diabetes, poor dietary habits, and changing lifestyles. Prof. Shahinul extended an official invitation to the President to serve as Chief Guest at the upcoming Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL) conference, which President Mirza Fakhrul accepted. Senior military and civilian secretaries alongside leading hepatologists were present during the Bangabhaban call.
