President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called upon both public and private universities to align higher education with domestic and international labor market demands to produce highly skilled, employment-ready human resources.
The President made these observations on Saturday (October 17, 2026) when a high-level delegation from Southeast University—led by Board of Trustees Chairman Rezaul Karim and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Yusufe Mahbubul Islam—paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban. Emphasizing a holistic overhaul of university curricula, President Mirza Fakhrul noted that while Bangladesh imports technical and managerial talent from abroad for local industries and corporate sectors, thousands of local graduates remain unemployed. He urged universities to focus heavily on modern engineering, technology, and vocational training to bridge this deficit.
During the meeting, Southeast University Board Chairman Rezaul Karim briefed the President on the institution's academic operations, highlighting that the university operates as a non-profit charity and provides approximately BDT 32 crore annually in tuition fee waivers and scholarships for poor, meritorious, and special-quota students. Chairman Karim extended an official invitation to the President to preside over the university's upcoming Convocation ceremony, which President Mirza Fakhrul accepted. The meeting was attended by the President’s Military Secretary, Press Secretary, and senior board members of Southeast University.
