President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called upon visiting UK lawmakers to play an active role in strengthening relations between the parliaments of Bangladesh and the United Kingdom and boosting bilateral investment. The President made these remarks when a delegation of the UK All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Bangladesh paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban today.

The British Bangladeshi delegation was led by APPG Chair and British MP Apsana Begum, alongside MP Shockat Adam and Member of the House of Lords Lord Qurban Hussain.

Welcoming the delegation, the President stated that the people of Bangladesh will remember the contributions made by members of the UK APPG toward restoring democracy in the country.

Highlighting the UK as a key economic and development partner and one of Bangladesh's largest export markets, he emphasized enhancing parliamentary cooperation through reciprocal visits, exchange programs among parliamentary committees, and training for officials. He also expressed hope for establishing a Bangladesh-UK Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Jatiya Sangsad.

Earlier in the meeting, Apsana Begum congratulated President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election and commended his perseverance and success following years of hardship during the movement for democracy.

The UK delegation extended sincere congratulations on the holding of a free, fair, and globally accepted national parliamentary election in 2026.

The President added that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working to strengthen state institutions in Bangladesh modeled after key British institutions. The President's Military Secretary, Secretary, and Press Secretary were also present during the meeting.
