The Bangladesh Primary Teachers Association has announced a six-step agitation program to press home their three-point demand, which includes upgrading assistant primary school teachers' salaries to the 11th grade.
The announcement was made on Tuesday (October 20, 2026) during a press conference at the Shafiqul Kabir Auditorium of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), presided over by central president Md. Moazzem Hossain Shahin and presented by policy-making chairman Md. Sirajul Islam and general secretary Khairun Nahar Lipi. The association's key demands include upgrading assistant teachers to the 11th grade, ensuring two higher grades upon completing 8 and 14 years of service, 100% promotion from assistant to head teacher based on seniority, and the withdrawal of departmental cases and transfer orders against teachers, including Lipi.
The protest program will kick off on November 8 with teachers wearing black badges, holding a doa mahfil, and submitting memorandum letters to Deputy Commissioners across the country, followed by divisional commissioner memorandums on December 17, a grand rally in Dhaka by December, and ultimately a hunger strike if demands are not met.
