Rooftop solar power systems installed across deputy commissioner (DC) and divisional commissioner offices in Bangladesh have achieved a combined generation capacity of 5.07 megawatts, backed by a government expenditure of approximately Taka 15.15 crore. According to a progress report, DC offices account for 4,663 kilowatts while five divisional commissioner offices contribute 405.5 kilowatts.
While installations are complete in many areas—such as Kishoreganj leading Dhaka Division with 360 kW and Noakhali leading Chattogram with 225 kW—several offices face administrative bottlenecks, pending net-metering approvals, or uncompleted tenders (such as in Tangail, Madaripur, Narsingdi, and Narayanganj).
Energy analysts emphasize that while the 5.07 MW output is modest nationally, it sets an important benchmark for public and private building adoption as Bangladesh pursues its Renewable Energy Development Strategy 2026-2030, targeting 10,500 megawatts of renewable capacity by 2030, including 5,500 megawatts from rooftop solar.
