Prime Minister Tarique Rahman emphasized that the honor and status of teachers are intrinsically linked to the dignity and global image of the nation, declaring education as the top priority of the current administration.
Delivering the keynote address at the World Teachers' Day 2026 conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on Monday (October 5, 2026), the Prime Minister outlined a sweeping vision to modernize Bangladesh's national education system. Highlighting that this year's national budget allocated the highest proportion of resources to the education sector in the country's history, Prime Minister Rahman detailed key structural reforms. These include modernizing Teachers' Training Colleges, expanding the "One Teacher, One Tab" digital lesson initiative, expanding multimedia classrooms, and introducing the new "Learning with Happiness" textbook for Class 6 students to foster joyful, practical learning. Stressing that teaching should never be a "last-resort career" but a prime choice for the country's brightest minds, he announced new policy directives ensuring that teachers' pension and retirement benefits are directly remitted via banking channels without administrative harassment. Furthermore, the Prime Minister instructed relevant authorities to mandate the inclusion of primary and secondary school teachers in official invitation lists for all major national state events, reinforcing societal respect for the teaching profession.
