Adviser and Prime Minister's Office Spokesperson Mahdi Amin stated on Monday (September 21) that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will represent the people, interests, and future plans of Bangladesh at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), following in the footsteps of his parents, former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
In a social media post, Mahdi Amin highlighted the efficiency and austerity of the high-level diplomatic visit, noting that the delegation consists of a compact 35-member official entourage, including 15 ministers, state ministers, advisers, and special assistants, alongside essential security, media, and personal staff. Traveling via commercial flights, the Prime Minister's six-day itinerary includes four active days in New York packed with high-level bilateral and multilateral engagements.
Mahdi Amin emphasized that this delegation marks a historic global moment where a third representative from the same family addresses the UN General Assembly after securing a popular mandate. He further noted that Bangladesh's Foreign Minister will preside as President of this UNGA session, symbolizing the democratic transition and international recognition of Bangladesh's elected leadership on the world stage.
