Lionel Messi scored his 75th career direct free-kick goal during Inter Miami's 2-2 draw against San Diego FC on Sunday, advancing to second place on the historical list of all-time free-kick scorers.

Messi struck in the 24th minute after San Diego had taken an early lead. Positioned on the right side just outside the penalty area, the Argentine star curled a sublime left-footed free-kick through the box and straight into the far corner without any touch from another player. The strike marked Messi's 101st goal for Inter Miami and brought his phenomenal career tally to 930 goals.

With this latest milestone, Messi is now only three goals away from matching Brazilian legend Marcelinho Carioca, who holds the top spot with 78 direct free-kick goals. Messi had previously reached 74 after scoring twice from free-kicks against CF Montréal on August 29.

This goal also moved Messi past Jair Rosa Pinto (74 goals) in the historical rankings compiled by El Gráfico. Other legendary figures on the list include Roberto Dinamite (73), along with Juninho Pernambucano and Siniša Mihajlović, who are both credited with 72 free-kick goals.

In the match itself, Inter Miami briefly took a 2-1 lead through Luis Suárez in the 74th minute, but San Diego forward Anders Dreyer netted his second goal of the match eight minutes later to secure a 2-2 draw, marking Inter Miami's fourth consecutive stalemate in MLS play.
