A district-level orientation meeting for the 'Protishtha' project was held in Pirojpur to strengthen early warning and forecast-based preparedness for cyclones, floods, and climate-related disasters.
The meeting took place on Sunday (October 4) at the Shaheed Abdur Razzak-Saif Mizan Memorial Conference Room in the Deputy Commissioner's Office. The project is being implemented by the NGO Uttaran with funding from the European Union, alongside technical cooperation from Action Against Hunger and CARE Bangladesh.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mahmudur Rahman Mamun attended the meeting as the chief guest, with Protishtha Project Coordinator Md. Rezwan Ullah presiding over the session. The event was hosted by Upazila Manager Sheikh Redwanul Islam.
During the meeting, it was shared that the project is being implemented in Pirojpur’s Indurkani (Zianagar) upazila, as well as Sharankhola in Bagerhat, Koyra in Khulna, Ashashuni in Satkhira, and Teknaf and Ukiah upazilas in Cox's Bazar.
The core objective of the project is to strengthen local-level early warning systems by integrating trigger-based anticipatory actions with disaster forecasts. This initiative aims to minimize loss of life and socio-economic damage by taking necessary preparatory measures before disasters strike.
Project Coordinator Md. Rezwan Ullah and Project Officer (Reporting and Monitoring) Md. Al-Amin Molla highlighted various aspects of the project. District-level government officials, project-related officials and staff of Uttaran, journalists, NGO representatives, and civil society members were present at the event.
