The Ministry of Public Administration has released the official public holiday calendar for 2027, featuring general holidays, executive order holidays, and optional (oichhik) religious and cultural leave provisions. Under state regulations, public sector employees may avail a maximum of three days of optional leave per calendar year aligned with their respective religious or ethnic identity, subject to prior administrative approval.
The 2027 optional calendar accommodates Muslim, Hindu, Christian, and Buddhist festivals, alongside ethnic community observances such as Baisabi in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT). March features the highest volume of optional options (7 days across different faiths), while October offers key multi-day long weekend combinations surrounding Durga Puja, Lakshmi Puja, Probarona Purnima, and Shyama Puja. No optional holidays are scheduled for June, August, and November.
