As Bangladesh's pioneering and most expensive Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant reaches the final stages of pre-commissioning—marked by a successful 16-megapixel pressure-operated relief valve (PORV/POSV) test for the first unit and the arrival of the second unit's maiden nuclear fuel shipment on Saturday (October 3, 2026)—various allegations and negative propaganda have emerged regarding project costs, safety, and administration.

Addressing these concerns on Monday (October 5, 2026), NPCBL Managing Director and Senior Nuclear Expert Dr. Zahedul Hasan dismissed criticisms as incomplete or misleading, clarifying that his dual roles and compensation strictly align with government regulations since June 2025. He noted that institutional decisions—ranging from shop manager assignments and board-regulated Russian apartment rentals for 41 inspectors managed by contractor ASE to an internal audit led by a Ministry joint secretary—were executed through authorized committees rather than personal directives.

Furthermore, addressing manpower retention, he clarified that out of 1,922 total recruits and 997 specialized trainees, only 2.7% have left, urging that lower-grade staff departures not be conflated with the specialized nuclear workforce.
