Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stated on Sunday (October 18, 2026) that protecting national interests, sovereignty, and dignity will remain Bangladesh's foremost commitment while fostering friendship and cooperation with all nations on the basis of mutual respect and equality.

Addressing the National Standard Awarding Ceremony at Savar Cantonment, where several battalions and regiments received the National Standard for professional excellence, the Prime Minister emphasized that modern military strength relies on discipline, competence, integrity, public trust, and strict adherence to the chain of command rather than mere manpower or weaponry.

Highlighting evolving global security challenges—including cyberspace, drones, AI, and electronic warfare—the Prime Minister noted that initiatives are underway to modernize defence preparedness and establish a domestic defence industry for local equipment manufacturing. He also paid deep tribute to the historic role of the Bangladesh Army in the 1971 Liberation War, recalling Major Ziaur Rahman’s declaration of revolt in Chattogram on the night of March 25 and his subsequent declaration of independence from Kalurghat Radio Centre on March 27. Furthermore, PM Tarique Rahman highlighted government welfare measures for armed forces personnel, including salary increases between 100 to 138 percent and ongoing processing of the "One Rank, One Pension" system.
