Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Students Use Tractors to Demolish Trade Fair Structures on Former Exhibition Ground

Over two hundred students from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) brought two university tractors to the old International Trade Fair ground in Agargaon on Monday afternoon, November 2, 2026, using the heavy machinery to demolish temporary trade fair structures, gates, and commercial stalls.

The student action commenced around 12:00 PM, following the expiration of a 12-hour deadline given to event organizers to remove the commercial setups. Agitating students asserted that the historic trade fair ground originally belonged to the university and must be formally returned to SAU to build an Agricultural Research Institute, sports fields, and academic research facilities. They demanded an immediate cancellation of plans to relocate the Bangladesh Secretariat to the land and a complete ban on commercial expos.

This incident marks an escalation in ongoing student protests. On October 27, students seized soil testing equipment and two vehicles brought to test the ground for Secretariat construction. On October 28, students vandalized the main gate, followed by a major road blockade at the China Friendship Signal intersection on Sunday, November 1, which severely disrupted metropolitan traffic. SAU Acting Proctor Prof. Tajul Islam stated that administrative steps are being taken to address student demands while discouraging further physical destruction.
