State Takes Special Initiative to Fast-Track Appellate Division Hearings for Narayanganj 7-Murder, Major Sinha, and Abrar Fahad Cases
The Supreme Court of Bangladesh, where fast-tracked hearings for the 7-Murder, Major Sinha, and Abrar Fahad cases will commence following the vacation recess.

The State has initiated special measures to fast-track Appellate Division hearings for three of Bangladesh’s most high-profile murder cases—the Narayanganj Seven-Murder, the murder of retired Major Sinha Md Rashed Khan, and the murder of BUET student Abrar Fahad.

Attorney General Ruhul Quddus Kazal confirmed the initiative on Sunday (October 18, 2026), stating that the State is taking proactive steps to bring these long-pending cases to final resolution. All three cases have completed trial court proceedings and received High Court verdicts upholding convictions, but have remained queued in the Appellate Division. The Attorney General assured that as soon as the Supreme Court reopens following its scheduled vacation recess, formal hearing schedules will be arranged to dispose of the appeals without further delay.

The High Court delivered its verdict in the landmark Narayanganj 7-Murder case on August 22, 2017, upholding the death penalty for 15 convicts (reduced from 26 in the trial court). In the Major Sinha murder case, the High Court on June 2, 2025, confirmed the death sentences of dismissed Teknaf Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradeep Kumar Das and Inspector Liakat Ali. Meanwhile, in the Abrar Fahad murder case, the High Court on March 16, 2025, affirmed the capital punishment of 20 convicts and life sentences for five others.
