United Kingdom to Extend Duty-Free Access to 92 Percent of Bangladeshi Products Post-LDC Graduation
British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke delivers her keynote address at the Bay of Bengal Conversation 2026 in Dhaka on Sunday.

British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke has announced that the United Kingdom will maintain duty-free market access for 92 percent of Bangladeshi exports—including ready-made garments (RMG)—for three years following the country's graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status.

Speaking on the second day of the 'Bay of Bengal Conversation 2026' in Dhaka on Sunday (October 4, 2026), High Commissioner Cooke stated that Bangladesh currently enjoys duty-free access for 99.8 percent of its goods under the UK's Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS). She emphasized that the UK considers Bangladesh a vital strategic and modern partner, noting that British investments across financial services, fashion, education, and energy continue to drive Bangladesh's economic transformation. High Commissioner Cooke further underscored expanding bilateral cooperation in maritime security within a free and open Indo-Pacific, joint action against climate risks, and ongoing international advocacy for the voluntary, safe, and dignified repatriation of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar. Organized by the Center for Governance Studies (CGS), the three-day international conference brought together global diplomats and policy experts.
