At least nine US military aircraft were damaged in an Iranian missile strike targeting the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Al-Azraq, Jordan, on Tuesday night (September 8), according to a report by US broadcaster CBS.

Citing sources familiar with the incident, the report disclosed that an A-10 Thunderbolt surveillance and attack aircraft suffered severe structural damage, losing a wing, while eight F-15 Strike Eagle fighter jets sustained light damage. The F-15s have since been restored to operational service.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), CBS reporter Jennifer Jacobs detailed that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched the ballistic missile barrage hours after the US Air Force disabled five Iranian oil tankers in retaliatory strikes following Iranian attacks on US warships in the Strait of Hormuz. US forces stationed at the Al-Azraq base deployed over 30 Patriot interceptor missiles to counter the incoming Iranian strike.

However, the Jordanian Armed Forces issued a statement early Wednesday claiming that air defense systems intercepted 18 of the 20 ballistic missiles fired from Iran.

"The two missiles that could not be intercepted fell in unpopulated, vacant areas, causing no casualties or damage to economic infrastructure," the Jordanian military statement affirmed.

No US casualties have been reported following the strike.
