By-Election to Thakurgaon-1 Constituency Scheduled for October 29
The Election Commission (EC) has announced the schedule for the by-election to the Thakurgaon-1 parliamentary constituency, which fell vacant after Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir assumed office as President. According to the announced schedule, voting will take place on October 29.
EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed the development on Thursday (September 10) following the finalization of the schedule by the commission led by AMM Nasir Uddin. As per the timeline, the last date for submitting nomination papers to the returning officer is September 27, while scrutiny of nominations will occur on September 29. The final date for candidate withdrawal is October 7, symbol allocation will take place on October 8, and polling will run continuously on October 29. Additionally, appeals against nomination decisions can be filed from September 30 to October 4, with appeal disposal slated for October 6. Candidates will officially commence their election campaigns starting October 8. The constituency has a total of 515,000 registered voters. It may be recalled that Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected President through a national parliament vote on August 20, and upon taking the oath the following day, the parliamentary seat was officially declared vacant by the Secretariat.
