Baharul Murder Case Suspect Ashraful Arrested in Fultala
The District Detective Branch (DB) of Police has claimed to have unraveled the mystery surrounding the murder of extremist Baharul Mollah in Ranagati Madhyapara of Abhaynagar upazila, Jashore. According to DB, the killing was orchestrated by the victim's younger brother, Mamun Mollah, who contracted a hired killer for 3 lakh taka following a family dispute. Police stated that Ashraful Islam, the primary killer who participated in the murder, was a close associate of the deceased Baharul Mollah. On September 10, Ashraful Islam gave a confessional statement before the court regarding the incident. Prior to that, on the deep night of September 9, Ashraful Islam was detained by the DB police from South Dighi village in Fultala upazila of Khulna. The arrested Ashraful is the son of Abdur Rashid from the same village.
According to DB police sources, on the morning of September 7, the bullet-riddled body of Baharul Mollah was recovered from an orchard in Ranagati Madhyapara, Abhaynagar upazila. In connection with this incident, the victim's elder brother, Billal Mollah, filed a murder case at the Abhaynagar police station against unknown accused individuals. The case is being investigated by SI Nasir of Abhaynagar police station. DB Police SIs Shibu Mondal and Kamal Hossain stated that Ashraful Islam was identified as a suspect involved in the murder with the help of information technology. After detaining and interrogating him, he provided details about the killing. DB officials stated that Ashraful revealed the victim's younger brother, Mamun Mollah, contracted him for the murder with a cheque of 3 lakh taka. After the money was withdrawn, Baharul Mollah was deceitfully called to the orchard on the night of September 6 and shot dead. Ashraful also disclosed that three others took part in the crime along with him. During interrogation, Ashraful further mentioned that Baharul Mollah had a dispute with his family regarding the division of 25 to 30 bighas of land belonging to their father, Abdur Rashid. The DB claims that Mamun Mollah plotted the murder stemming from this very dispute.
DB police stated that the prime suspect and mastermind behind the incident, Mamun Mollah, is currently absconding. Police operations are ongoing to apprehend him.
