Prime Minister Tarique Rahman Meets Families of Soldiers Martyred in Tank Firing Incident
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman met with the family members of the two army personnel who were martyred in an ammunition explosion during a tank firing exercise at the Hathazari Field Firing Range in Chittagong.
During the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon on Tuesday morning (September 15), the Prime Minister presented financial assistance checks to the bereaved families and assured them that both the government and the Bangladesh Army would stand by them permanently.
Expressing deep condolences, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman commended the bravery and dedication of the fallen soldiers. "Our army personnel gave their lives while fulfilling their duties for the nation. They have achieved martyrdom in service to the country, and their supreme sacrifice will be remembered by the nation with the utmost respect," Rahman said.
Reassuring the grieving relatives, he added, "We stand beside you during this profound loss, and we will continue to do so. The government and the Bangladesh Army will provide all necessary cooperation and fulfill their duties in looking after your families."
At the event, it was announced that the Bangladesh Army will construct a permanent residential house for each of the two martyrs' families at their respective home addresses. In addition, employment opportunities will be arranged for the wives of the deceased soldiers, alongside a monthly allowance provided for their children.
The incident occurred on September 9 during a routine tank firing exercise at the Hathazari Field Firing Range, resulting in the deaths of Soldier (Operator) Abu Bakar Siddique and Soldier (Gunner) Md. Tasnim Rifayat.
The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister's spouse, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman, and senior military officials.
Family members present at the meeting included Abu Bakar Siddique's wife Suraiya Akhtar Juti, his infant daughter Fatema Siddika, father Abdul Wahed, and mother Parveen Akhtar. Representing Md. Tasnim Rifayat's family were his wife Mst. Fahmida Afrin, infant daughter Rafsa Tasnim Ifra, and father Md. Asadul Haq.
