Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former Member of Parliament Mia Golam Parwar has demanded a fair and impartial investigation to determine whether operational negligence or safety lapses contributed to the fire at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH).

In a press statement issued on Tuesday morning (September 15), Parwar expressed deep grief and shock over the casualties and panic caused by the incident.

Reflecting on the evening fire of September 14, Parwar stated that the tragic death of at least two people and injuries to twenty others—resulting from a panicked stampede down stairwells—was deeply distressing. He offered prayers for the deceased, extended sympathies to the bereaved families, and wished a speedy recovery for those undergoing treatment.

Highlighting the critical nature of healthcare facilities, the Jamaat leader urged authorities to ascertain whether structural faults or administrative negligence played a role in triggering the outbreak. He emphasized the immediate need to audit and reinforce fire safety infrastructure across both public and private hospitals nationwide to prevent similar occurrences.

Parwar concluded his statement by calling on the government and relevant health authorities to provide adequate compensation to the families of the victims, ensure free medical care for the injured, and publish a comprehensive investigation report regarding the root cause of the incident.
