E-Commerce Firm J-Creation Evades Tk 3.76 Crore in Revenue, Finds VAT Authorities
The Dhaka West Customs, Excise, and VAT Commissionerate has uncovered revenue evasion totaling approximately Tk 3.76 crore by J-Creation, an online retail establishment specializing in ready-made garments.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) disclosed the findings through a press release on Tuesday (September 15).
According to the NBR, a specialized team conducted a surprise raid on September 13 at J-Creation's operational office in the Mirpur Section-12 area of the capital, acting on specific intelligence. The e-commerce enterprise primarily sells men's traditional attire—including panjabis and sherwanis—alongside various apparel products through digital platforms.
During the inspection, officials detected irregularities pointing to systematic Value Added Tax (VAT) evasion. Consequently, key financial records and computer central processing units (CPUs) were seized under the VAT Form 12.3 framework for forensic examination.
A preliminary audit of the seized sales records and digital data confirmed that the firm concealed sales turnovers, resulting in a revenue loss of Tk 3.76 crore.
The NBR stated that comprehensive verification of the seized documents is currently underway, and legal proceedings—including the filing of a formal tax evasion case—are in progress against the establishment.
