Islami Andolan Bangladesh has urged the government to refrain from harassing individuals protesting against institutional mismanagement and criminal acts, calling instead for decisive legal action against perpetrators of wrongdoing and administrative failure.
In an official statement released on Saturday (October 3, 2026), Islami Andolan Bangladesh Secretary General Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman expressed deep concern over recent state actions targeting citizens who raised their voices against injustice. Citing two specific instances, Gazi Ataur Rahman highlighted the case of digital content creator Salman Muqtadir, whose studio was vandalized and looted—only for the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) to issue notices requesting his bank account transactions on September 30. He further condemned the arrest and one-day remand granted by a Dhaka court on October 3 against former MP Freedom Fighter Major (Retd.) Akhtaruzzaman following an altercation over severe baggage and trolley delays at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Gazi Ataur Rahman argued that punishing protesters rather than fixing systemic failures fosters a repressive state apparatus and emboldens wrongdoers, urging the administration to uphold democratic values and citizen accountability.
