Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar demanded the immediate withdrawal of charges and cancellation of the remand order against former MP Freedom Fighter Major (Retd.) Akhtaruzzaman, calling his arrest following an altercation over severe mismanagement at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport entirely fabricated.
Addressing a massive protest rally and subsequent demonstration march organized at the northern gate of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka on Saturday (October 3, 2026), Mia Golam Parwar argued that the authorities themselves implicitly acknowledged systemic administrative failure by suspending two airport officials following the October 1 incident. Parwar emphasized that as a passenger waiting over three hours for delayed baggage and Zamzam water, Akhtaruzzaman exercised a citizen's right to demand accountability. Parwar further criticized law enforcement for forcefully handcuffing and placing a security helmet on a freedom fighter who voluntarily complied with police custody. Strongly cautioning Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and BNP leaders against using "Awami League-style rhetoric" labeling Jamaat-e-Islami as "anti-independence," Parwar reminded the ruling party of their decade-long political alliance and urged national unity instead of political division.
