BNP Government Has Destroyed All State Institutions in 7 Months, Claims Jamaat Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, delivered a scathing critique of the governing BNP administration on Sunday (October 18, 2026), alleging that the party has destroyed all state institutions during its seven months in power and is treading the exact path of the deposed autocratic regime.

Speaking as the chief guest at an open discussion titled "One Year Appraisal of Promises and Expectations of the July Charter"—organized by the Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU)—Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated that the Opposition had initially sought to cooperate with the government for national development. However, he claimed the BNP administration failed to utilize opposition cooperation and instead pushed the nation back into confrontational politics. "BNP may have changed, but we will not back down from our promises. We will enforce the public mandate of the July Charter and the referendum, Insha’Allah," he asserted.

Dr. Shafiqur further alleged severe parliamentary discrimination, revealing that special development funds were granted to 208 treasury bench MPs while zero allocations were given to the 89 Opposition MPs. He criticized the government’s oath-taking process and economic policies, including imposing taxes on livestock, warning that Jamaat’s 89 MPs will act as vigilant sentinels for the nation's 18 crore citizens against "neo-fascism."
